Cleanliness and hygiene have gone for a toss at Kalka and Pinjore in Panchkula with residents and the civic body workers dumping garbage along the sides of the Kalka-Shimla highway.

Several vacant areas across the highway contain heaps of garbage, including the plot across Yadvindra Gardens in Pinjore.
Many of these dumps, especially the one along the highway in Pinjore, emit unbearable stench.The Pinjore dump, which was earlier left open, has now been covered using some tin sheets to hide it from the public eye.
Huge dumps are located in the rainwater drains near the Kalka housing board colony and the Kalka police station.When one enters the road leading to the Gandhi Chowk, one is welcomed by a massive and open garbage dump.
A signboard near the dump read: ‘Keep your city clean’.
Unfortunately, the message seems to have been lost on the residents and the civic body.

A massive garbage dump is located about 20 steps away from the residence of Sangat Singh Nanda, senior deputy mayor of the Panchkula municipal corporation.
This clearly reflects the fact that elected representatives have themselves failed to set an example by keeping their surroundings clean.
