Guru Nanak Dev is an ideal of yoga, spiritual leader Ramdev said on Friday, praising the Sikh community for their "immortal spirit".

"I take Guru Nanak Dev as an ideal of Yoga," he said, while addressing a gathering here on the occasion of 350th foundation day of Sri Anandpur Sahib.

"They (Sikh Gurus) understood immortality of spirit. They were yogis," he said.

"Yoga is not merely an exercise. In fact, it is an entire life of an individual," the Yoga guru said, adding it will go a long way in "cleansing" the political system of the country.

Showering praises on Sikh community, Ramdev said, they saved Hindus in times of need.

The 350th foundation day of Sri Anandpur Sahib should be celebrated across the country on the lines of International Yoga Day, he added.
