A local court on Wednesday sent two prime accused to two-day police remand in the Sector-20 gurudwara robbery case which took place on Monday.
The police apprehended the five accused, including former president of gurudwara Harcharan Singh, 24 hours after the incident.
However, the family of the Harcharan claims that he has been falsely implicated in the case. "It is on the behest of the present president that my father has been indicted due to personal grudges. His name is not mentioned in the FIR and nowhere in the CCTV footage there is any indication that he was involved in the robbery. My father has been the president of the shrine for almost 17 years. Only three months ago, the committee elected new president Inderpal Singh Mann, " Gurdeep Singh, son of Harcharan Singh told HT.
The court of judicial magistrate Ravi Gulati granted two days police remand to Harcharan Singh and sewadar Natha Singh. While three former granthis - Gursewak Singh, Lakhwinder Singh and Sukhjit Singh - have been sent to 14 days judicial custody.
The police while seeking remand of the accused in the application before the court said, "We need to recover the robbed cash nearly Rs 1.07 lakh, cheque books, ATM cards, gurudwara stamps, donation receipt books and other records and documents. Besides, we need to apprehend Natha Singh's son and grandson who are at large."
