The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) on Thursday told the Punjab and Haryana high court that the Haryana government was causing hindrance in carrying out the investigations into allegations of castration against Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
Oral submissions were made by CBI senior standing counsel Sukhdeep Singh Sandhu who gave a letter to court written by the agency on January 8, asking the state government to provide necessary logistics’ support to carry out the investigations.
Sandhu submitted that by not providing necessary logistics, the state government was causing hindrance in carrying out the probe which was spread across four states Haryana, Punjab, Rajashtan and Uttar Pradesh.
The CBI, in its letter dated January 8, had asked the government to provide eight rooms in Chandigarh including two for office purpose, computers, printers, one liaison officer and six vehicles. Sandhu submitted that the state had not taken any action so far on the letter written in January.
The high court bench of justice R K Jain took note of the submissions and asked the agency to file the same by way of an application so that necessary directions could be issued to the state government.
On CBI submissions, the Haryana counsel present told the court that he would take up the matter with the government. The CBI also gave a sealed cover report on the investigations so far, which was opened by the high court and later put again in the same cover.
On December 23,2014, the single-judge bench of justice K Kannan had handed over the probe to the CBI and asked it to register a FIR against the dera head on the complaint of Fatehabad resident Hansraj Chauhan.
On CBI submissions, the Haryana counsel present told the court that he would take up the matter with the government. The CBI also gave a sealed cover report on the investigations so far, which was opened by the high court and later put again in the same cover.
On December 23,2014, the single-judge bench of justice K Kannan had handed over the probe to the CBI and asked it to register a FIR against the dera head on the complaint of Fatehabad resident Hansraj Chauhan.
Chauhan had approached the high court, alleging that 400 dera followers had been castrated on the dera premises in 2000 on the promise that it would lead to realisation of God.
The central investigative agency has registered first information reports (FIRs) against the dera head and some others in this connection.
The single judge order has also been challenged by Ram Rahim in a division bench, where proceedings are underway. The next compliance report from the CBI in the case is to be filed before July 1.
