Bus services in Haryana were restored on Monday morning after the employee unions of Haryana Roadways called off their strike.
The two-day strike, which had paralysed bus services across the state and put commuters to inconvenience, was called off following an assurance by Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to put on hold the process to grant 2,600 route permits to private bus operators.
In all, about 3,500 route permits were to be given to private bus operators under the policy formulated by the state government. While the Punjab and Haryana high court had ordered status quo on the grant of existing 900 route permits, the government had invited applications for the remaining 2,600 route permits.
