Rahul Gandhi and controversies are old friends or so it seems when he said, "Out of every ten youth in Punjab seven are into drugs." Congress general secretary Gandhi was addressing a gathering of students at Panjab University campus here on Thursday.

Amidst hooting and cheers from the gathered audience, Rahul Gandhi started his speech stating that oil was an important commodity in the past in the present times it is human resources. He compared India to Saudi Arabia and said that India was the next Saudi Arabia and will soon become a capital for human resource. "India is the Saudi Arabia of 21st century and youth is responsible for the same", quipped Gandhi.

In a one sided show he talked about achievements of Congress government and urged students to join student body National Student Union of India (NSUI). Students had sent their questions but the same went for a toss as Rahul Gandhi was on his own trip and spoke on issues of his choice. This was his second visit to the varsity, he first visited in 2009.

Further taking a dig at the opposition he said that all the money sent from centre to Punjab state for scholarships was returned by the state to centre without being utilised. During his visit he was also accompanied by Congress leaders Captain Amarinder Singh and Sunil Jhakar. Captain Amarinder Singh criticised Deputy CM of Punjab Sukhbir Badal for donating Rs 1 crore to his Alma mater Lawerence School, Sanawar. Rahul Gandhi during his speech followed the footsteps of Capt Amarinder Singh and he too criticised the Akali government for making such a donation.
