Model-turned-actress Vaani Kapoor, who made heads turn with her bold act in her debut film, Shuddh Desi Romance, last year, also has a social activist side to her. In the city on Thursday to raise awareness for the education of underprivileged children, the Delhi girl said a wholesome environment was required for the right development of a child.

Having first appeared in TV series Rajuben, Vaani says she was never afraid of failure despite the fact that she had arrived in Mumbai without the aid of 'starry connections'. "I am a family person, so being alone without any friends or family to start with was a little unnerving. But, I always had my education to fall back upon if things didn't work out for me," says she, adding further, "I am grateful to my mother for insisting that I complete my education. In fact, she didn't let me take any decision until I was fully informed about it."

Vaani says she always inculcated an interest in acting. Shuddh Desi Romance, which starred Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra in the lead, was a part of Vaani's three-film deal with Yash Raj Films. Her second film was Aaha Kalyanam, a remake of Hindi hit Band Baaja Baaraat, though the remake only did average business. But, the actress is far from perturbed. "I have just entered the Hindi film industry with a three-film deal with Yash Raj Films. So, clearly, I must be doing something right," she answers confidently.

Taking pride in her education, Vaani, who has a bachelor's degree in tourism studies, believes that glamour is just a myth that fades away. "All that is true is the upbringing and education you have had in your life," she signs off.
