Home is where the heart is

Leaving India to go abroad has become a common practice these days. People now prefer foreign countries rather than their own motherland. But I believe leaving your nation doesn't really give you everything you want. No doubt studying overseas has become an in thing these days. From every family, you will hear that "my son or daughter is abroad, or he or she is planning to go abroad for higher studies". Vaibhav Sharma writes.

No doubt studying overseas has become an in thing these days. From every family, you will hear that "my son or daughter is abroad, or he or she is planning to go abroad for higher studies". The changing trends, charm of western lifestyle, and the craving for money are the main reasons behind this migration. There is hardly anyone left who thinks that even India could offer a better option than these countries. Few think it's better to do something within and for our own country. The love for our soil is not like it used to be before.

I still remember the time when I was leaving India and going to Australia for a postgraduate degree. Though my parents supported my decision, the grief of separation was clearly visible in their eyes as I was the only child left behind after my elder sister. I was leaving all friends and relatives behind. I was nervous as I was going to enter a new world where everything was new to me.

The day I stepped on Indian soil, I realised its value. I was ecstatic. I wept as I embraced my parents. I realised my country was not as bad as I used to think it was. In fact, if you are a real competitor today, you can get everything you desire in India itself.

Leaving your country may get you more opportunities but it also comes at a cost. When you're sick, face the consequences alone. No family, no friends and a path full of struggle. Though struggle makes you stronger, but if you can struggle there, why not here? Sadly, not many youngsters think so these days.

As for me, I've decided that now that I'm back with my family, I value them more and enjoy every single moment together.
