Urban development minister Sudhir Sharma on Monday said that the state government was planning to adopt Dutch model to transform the urban areas in the hill state by introducing advanced management practices and technologies to provide modern facilities.
In a statement issued here, Sharma told that the state government has collaborated with the government of Netherlands to achieve the target.
“The Himachal government would work in collaboration with the Netherlands government for preparing developmental work plans for environmental cooperation and will seek technical know how from the European country for important sectors, like solid waste management, urban and regional planning, city development plan, water management, sewerage, transport management, saving of energy and capacity building for all urban local bodies in the state,” said Sharma.
“Garbage disposal was one of the major problems facing the hill state for which the government was looking forward to adopt the model of the Netherlands,” he added.
Sharma further held that Netherlands had advanced in different sector of urban development and Himachal government was exploring the possibilities to replicate the model in the hill state by adopting the advanced technologies.
“The state has already sent a proposal to the government of India for including two cities of the state under city sanitation plan being funded by the Netherlands,” said Sharma, adding that the project would also boost the tourism in the hill state.
