Coming out against the BJP leadership and its decision to give the Chandigarh ticket to Kirron Kher, Dhawan ended his silence on Thursday.
“The decision of the BJP to field Kirron Kher was not a decision in the benefit of the party. The city’s history indicates that the candidates who are para-trooped have never got victory. Be it the Congress or BJP, the candidates of both the parties have won only if they had worked at the city-level. Kher came to my house but I did not commit anything. My decision will depend on what my supporters say. The meeting will be held at 10 am tomorrow at my residence in Sector-9.”
“The leadership had cleared my candidature (for Chandigarh). I was given by indications of this on March 15. It is a mystery who played spoilsport. I had topped in a prepoll survey conducted by the party but still the party chose to field someone who has never worked in the city at the grassroots level,” he added.
