Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) would launch another dedicated meteorological satellite 'INSAT-3D' to help take weather measurements of not only ground atmosphere but also temperatures up to 10-15 km above the earth's surface, revealed LS Rathore, director general of meteorology, Indian meteorological department, on Tuesday.
He also said that prediction regarding monsoons this year would be ready by the 3rd or 4th week of April.
"Farmers would now be able to plan better for their crops as the Met department will make weather forecasts available at the block level instead of district level at present," Rathore said, adding that the Met department was in the process of developing a mechanism to provide weather forecasts every three hours.
He warned that some risk still loomed large over the region's farmers since western disturbances might hit the northern region by Wednesday, though the impact would not be severe.
As for the future plans of the Met department, he said that weather forecast now available for 5-7 days in advance would be made available for the entire month in future after automated network stations are set up at many places.
Rathore further added that IMD's android-based application available in four metros of the country would henceforth be extended to 120 major cities.
