Hundreds of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) students on Wednesday took out a protest march in the city against the negative marking in the examination, introduced by the state technical board.
The students also raised slogans against the authorities and submitted a memorandum to additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Aurbind Sharma, which was addressed to chief minister demanding the scrapping of negative-marking system that they claim was adversely affecting them.
Earlier, the students had boycotted classes and gathered on the Ambala-Hisar highway near Polytechnic Chowk and marched towards deputy commissioner's office.
Addressing students, the leaders of the ITI students union, Sangharh Samiti, and Student Federation of India (SFI) students claimed nearly 80% students of various ITIs were declared fail in the second semester due to the negative marking.
SFI leader Dharminder Kumar said the department should not play with the future of students and old examination system should be continued. The ADC is learnt to have assured the students that their memorandum would be forwarded to the CM.
