Senior Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar on Monday called former Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh as "weak and coward" for opposing the CBI probe into the multi-crore drug racket.
"By opposing the CBI probe which the Punjab Congress has been demanding against revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia after he was named by drug lord Jagdish Bhola, Amarinder has shown that he is a coward," said Brar at a press conference.
Brar, who was accompanied by Moga Congress leader Vijay Kumar Sathi, claimed that Amarinder's credibility had come under a cloud as he seemed keen on getting his corruption cases settled by the SAD-BJP government than supporting his own party.
Brar said he was shocked to know that Amarinder was backing the same Punjab Police now against whom he had taken him to meet union Congress ministers in Delhi nearly 10 times to get probed more than 6,500 cases registered by the Akalis against the Congress workers out of political vendetta.
Brar said the Punjab police was incompetent to probe the international drug racket. "Under the circumstances, only the CBI is competent to probe the drug racket," he added.

{{/usCountry}}Asked if he would also want a probe into the allegations levelled by Amarinder against PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa, linking the latter with drug mafia and his suspected links with terrorists in a letter he had written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi around 18 months ago, Brar said the CBI should probe all aspects.
"I am seeking this probe rising above party lines. When the chief minister's political secretary Mahesh Inder Singh and senior Akali leader Balwinder Singh Bhunder have admitted that the drug racket had international roots, why it should not be probed by the CBI," said Brar.
He said drug lord Raja Kandola, who is currently in Tihar Jail, had revealed as to how the assembly elections in Punjab were funded with the drug money by political leaders cutting across party lines.
