It is perfectly natural for children aged 13-14 to dream of branded clothes, latest gadgets, alcohol and the like, but for the duo nabbed by the SAS Nagar on Sunday for involvement in about 15 thefts, the path to these went through crime.

The children, aged 13 and 14, are school dropouts and have long abandoned their SAS Nagar-based families and have been living in rented accommodation in Nayagaon.
They have told the police that they took to theft to satisfy their craving for branded clothes, alcohol and non-vegetarian food.

Upon their arrest, the police recovered rs11,000, 10 mobile phones and a stolen Honda Activa from their possession. The 14-year-old has already spent around 50 days at a juvenile home and had been friends with the younger one for around a year. Over time, they came into contact with notorious characters from the Nayagaon area, and went further into crime.

MODUS OPERANDI

The police claim that the younger one especially used to steal clothes. They used to perform a recce of the area and entered the house through windows.

Nayagaon SHO Raghubir Singh told HT, “Sunny and Shabir were involved in various thefts. They formed a group and used to party in the evening. It was their way of dressing and food habits that made us suspicious and we finally arrested them. On interrogation, they confessed to involvement in several crimes.”
