A delegation of Sikh leaders under the banner of All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC), Kashmir, have met Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in Jammu.
"The Sikhs were being deprived of their rights and demands since Independence," APSCC chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said in a handout on Tuesday.
Raina said, "We are believing the Home Minister of India as he has assured us that the charter of demands given by Sikh leaders of Jammu and Kashmir will be looked into and surely be resolved at the earliest."
He however, said the Sikh body hope that this time the Government of India will show its sincerity towards Sikh community, who not only played a key role for independence but also contributed greatly for the development of Jammu and Kashmir.
The APSCC Chairman also added that the government should resolve their issues permanently including employment package, extension of Minority Act to J&K state, general amnesty to hijackers as done in case of Hashim Qureshi, fresh Chittisinghpura probe in definite time period and central authority for providing state subject at par with Kashmiri migrants.
Meanwhile, Sikh leader from Poonch also said that the Sikhs living in border and far flung areas of Kashmir, Poonch and Rajouri regions have now mostly settled down in towns and cities after security threats, due to which they left their agriculture and horticulture land behind.
