Police had already recovered knife used in the crime from Chetan Sheoran's possession. In his statement to the police, Sheoran said: "Varsha was my close friend while we studied together at a coaching centre in Kota. But now, she had stopped talking to me, which made me angry to the extent that I killed her."

Even after committing the crime, Sheoran asked the police: "Has she died or still alive?"
