About 80 doctors attended a health seminar on latest advancements in laparoscopic surgery in Solan on Saturday night. The seminar was organised by Max Super Speciality Hospital (MSSH), SAS Nagar in association with IMA, Solan and Solan Doctors Association.
Dr Manmohan Singh Bedi, senior consultant, advanced laparoscopic surgery, MSSH, SAS Nagar, said the recent advancements in laparoscopic surgery with better visual devices, good dissecting instruments had made the surgery bloodless and very safe for patients.
Dr Divya Awasthi, consultant, laparoscopic gynecology surgery also spoke on 'Advancements in Gynae Laparoscopic Surgery'.
Talking about the latest devices in laparoscopic surgery, Dr Bedi said these devices provided a magnified view as high definition image and hence provided an edge over open-surgery. Therefore, it makes it a less painful procedure for the patient.
"This has come as major boon for patients residing in far-flung areas with minimal medical facilities. In case of open surgery, most patients were required to be in hospital for post-surgery treatment, but in laparoscopic surgery, it isn't required."
Meanwhile apart from cesarean surgery, almost all the surgeries can be done laparoscopically. Laparoscopic surgeries done on a routine basis are; cholecystectomy, appendicectomy, all gynecological surgeries, all types of hernia surgeries, surgeries for cancer of abdomen, weight reducing surgery and surgery for heartburn as well.
