Lawrence school opens library at Solan village

The Lawrence School, Sanawar, has taken a step under its Outreach Programme towards community service by opening a community library at Garkhal village under the Kasauli-Garkhal panchayat, which was inaugurated by Shonu Mukherjee, deputy headmistress of the school, on Wednesday.

The Lawrence School, Sanawar, has taken a step under its Outreach Programme towards community service by opening a community library at Garkhal village under the Kasauli-Garkhal panchayat, which was inaugurated by Shonu Mukherjee, deputy headmistress of the school, on Wednesday.

The school, under the auspices of its ongoing Village Adoption Programme has undertaken two service projects within the panchayat.

The community library was one of them while other involves construction of public toilets at Nande Ka Thada, a village under the same panchayat. The construction of the public toilets was in progress. Four toilets, including two for women, will be provided in the first phase to the village.

The library has been 200 books, two newspapers and two fortnightly periodicals. While the books on subjects befitting the villagers have been selectively drawn from the school library, the expenditure for subscription of newspapers and periodicals shall be incurred by the school. The premises for housing the library were provided by the panchayat.

Village pradhan Deep Ram Sharma (retd excise and taxation commissioner), VK Sharma, dean and K Rampal were also present on the occasion.
