Learner driving license to be computerised in Punjab

The Punjab government, with a view to ensure total transparency in the process of issuing the learner driving licenses, has launched a novel project through which the entire driving licenses for the learners would be computerized.

The Punjab government, with a view to ensure total transparency in the process of issuing the learner driving licenses, has launched a novel project through which the entire driving licenses for the learners would be computerized.

Ajit Singh Kohar, Transport Minister, Punjab on Wednesday said that this new project is being launched for the current financial year 2013-14 which would not only ensure transparency but also issued within a stipulated time frame.

He also said that the usual time taken and the harassment while getting the driving license issued would be reduced to a certain extent.

Kohar further added that earlier also the department had started issuing driving licenses in the form of smart cards which was a largely appreciated.

Now the computerization of the entire process is another feather in the cap of Transport department, he added. He also said that the government had already authorized government ITIs, Polytechnics and Engineering colleges to conduct learner driving tests before issuing the learner and then a final license.
