The call for the protest was given out by Haryana Federation of University and College Teachers Association (HFUCTA).

Nearly 500 lecturers, including representatives gathered at the sadan to hand over their memorandum of demands to the education commissioner. The main demand included enhancement of retirement age to 65 years as per the guidelines set by University Grants Commission (UGC).

Those protesting were of opinion that the main monetary grant to any university or college come from the UGC and the guidelines laid down by the same for retirement should be followed by Haryana government.

The protesters also stated that there were discrepancies in the government rural service scheme and they wanted the government to have a transparent scheme on the same.

The issue of deteriorating quality of education was also raked up by the protesters. Lecturers said working for six days a week and taking 39 lecturers in a week, very little time for research was left for them.
