“The convicts acted in the most cruel and inhuman manner. Undoubtedly, it was a cold-blooded murder, thus both convicts are sentenced to undergo imprisonment for life, which would extend to the whole of their life,” additional district and sessions judge VP Sirohi said while pronouncing the quantum of sentence on Friday.

Vijay Singh had been murdered in the Polo Grounds, Patiala, on October 13, 2005. At that time, he was posted as the presiding officer of the labour courts, Chandigarh, and used to return to Patiala where his family was based.

Singh is a contract killer and had murdered Vijay Singh… He has no value for human life. Ravdeep Kaur hired him to kill Vijay Singh… thus both deserved nothing less than life term, if not death.”

Her daughter, Itra, a law student, said, “They are remorseless people. It is a battle we never wanted to fight.”
Despite repeated questioning, Dr Ravdeep Kaur only said, “I do not need your help. Even if I tell you something, it will not help… So, thank you.”

She was in tears minutes before the pronouncement, but later managed to control her emotions. Her family preferred to stay away from court, though her father’s driver did appear briefly. Manjit Singh walked out laughing after the sentence. “Are you happy now?” he asked.
