Counselling for the course is scheduled for August 4 at the department of laws. As many as 234 are currently seeking admission to the course.

In May, the university syndicate had cleared a proposal to allow the department of laws to conduct a one-year LLM course.

Talking about the change in the duration of the course, department of laws chairperson Ranbir Kaur said, “Last year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) had allowed the university to offer a one-year LLM course. However, recently, the commission sent a letter to all vice-chancellors that an LLM course of less than two years will not be recognised.”

She said that the university had made arrangements for introduction of the course but was forced to withdraw it. There are 32 seats for department of laws’ LLM course, with two additional seats for NRI candidates.

It remains unclear if the university would refund the entrance fee of students who now choose to withdraw their applications.

A provisional list will be displayed on the notice board of the department on August 3 at 5 pm. Candidates must bring original documents for verification at the time of interviews.
