When in Chandigarh, do as the Chandigarians – and what do tricity people do when it rains? They hop onto their fancy cars and rev their bikes to go gallivanting through the wide roads of City Beautiful or take to the mountains to breathe on some fresh ‘pahari’ air. Tricity’s ‘gehris’ and drives are as famous as its food and hospitality and they become even more special during the monsoon when the weather is as beautiful as this. We at HT shortlisted the top three drives in and around the tricity during this romantic and drive-worthy weather.

The one and only ‘Gehri’ route: Unique to the city, the famous ‘Gehri’ route (set of streets in Sectors 8, 9, 10 and 11) is the top pick for almost everyone. Rajat Devgan, a student of SD College, says, “As soon as it rains, I start itching to go on a gehri and there is no better place than the ‘gehri’ route for this. After all, it’s one of the things the city is famous for.” The city’s love for this drive is eternal.

The hills have it all Himalayan Expressway: When there is a beautiful drizzle outside, what could be better than zipping across the Shivaliks on the magnificent Himalayan Expressway, munching on hot samosas with some fantastic company? “The expressway has some of the most beautiful and panaromic views which become even more breathtaking when it rains! I love going for long drives with my wife during the monsoon,” says Avlok Gaur, a Panchkula resident.
