The two, the police said, were in a relationship and took the extreme step after facing opposition from their family. The deceased, Sonia Devi and Sumer Singh, residents of Lakhu Buwana village in Panipat, had been missing for nearly a week. They had reached the house of Sumer's sister on Monday and ended their lives after locking themselves in a room.

Though they were rushed to the civil hospital, doctors declared them brought dead. The police, meanwhile, have ruled out foul play. "It's a case of suicide. We have recorded the statement of their family members," the investigating officer said.
