The protesters, carrying black flags, reportedly intercepted the vehicles of the convoy, threw paper slips carrying messages on to it and raised slogans against Majithia for his alleged involvement in the drug nexus.

At around 1pm, the minister was on his way to lay the foundation stone of the sub-tehsil building near the grain market when the convoy was intercepted, creating an embarrassing situation for the police.

"This was our plan to raise our voice against the drug nexus patronised by politicians in Punjab," said Ranjit Singh Jassal, a protester and state executive member of Naujwan Bharat Sabha, while talking to HT on phone.
