A man committed suicide after allegedly killing his two children at Landran village in SAS Nagar on Saturday night. The deceased have been identified as Jagtar Singh, 35, and his two sons Gauravdeep, 13, and Harashdeep, 14.

Jagtar's mother Gurdev Kaur was also in the house at the time of incident, but she was sleeping in her room on the first floor. She came to know about the incident in the morning when she came downstairs to meet them.

The incident took place in the absence of Jagtar's wife Charanjeet Kaur, who had gone to meet her family in Kharar.

Village residents claimed that Jagtar was a drug addict.

The police recovered empty packets of celphos powder and half-filled liquor bottle from the room in which the deceased were lying.

Village sarpanch Gulzar Singh said, "Three empty packets of celphos powder were lying near the bodies and some powder was smeared on Jagtar's face."

He added that Jagtar was a labourer and his children were studying in SAS Nagar-based school. Jagtar's wife had gone to her parent's house on Saturday, as her father suffered a paralysis attack.

A case has been registered against deceased Jagtar on the complaint of Chand under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Panel Code.

The police said the post-mortem report would clarify as to how the children were killed by their father. The bodies of children had injury marks on their necks, which made police suspect that they were killed.
