Man poses as state information commission officer, arrested

The police on Monday have arrested a person who falsely claimed himself as an officer of State Information Commission of Punjab.

The police on Monday have arrested a person who falsely claimed himself as an officer of State Information Commission of Punjab.

The accused, identified as Akshay, 30, is a resident of Sector 27 in Chandigarh, and worked as a motor mechanic in the city.

The police booked Akshay for cheating and fraud as the accused was riding in a car with red beacon. During checking, at a police check-post in Zirakpur, the imposter had showed his fake identity card of State Information Commission of Punjab, said the police. The fake identity card showed Akshay as the “DEO” at a department of State Information Commission. However, sources said there was no such post with any department of the State Information Commission, Punjab.

The police have arrested the accused near the toll plaza when he was on his way to Chandigarh from Ambala. The accused also pasted a police sticker on the number plate of the car.

The police added that during investigation, Akshay had revealed that while crossing the toll plaza, he put the red beacon on his car.

A case has been registered against the accused under sections of 170 (personating a public servant), 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent), 419 (cheating by personation), 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 473 (making or possessing counterfeit seal) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code.
