The court of district and sessions judge RK Sondhi on Friday sentenced a local resident, Ram Kishan, to life imprisonment and fined him Rs 5,000 for killing his colleague. Jatinder Kumar, 35, employed with agriculture marketing board, was found dead on May 26, 2013. He had gone to get repaired a Bolero jeep of the Board, when he was found dead in Sector 15, Panchkula with the jeep parked nearby.
Initially, the police did not register any FIR in the case. It sent the viscera to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Madhuban, Karnal. The report from the FSL confirmed that the cause of death was injury on private parts. Finally, on February 26, this year, the police registered a murder case against unknown people.
To nab the accused, the victim’s wife gave the police the clues. She let it be known that her husband had an illicit relationship with Ram Kishan’s wife and the latter could be behind the murder. Kishan was the victim’s colleague. The police then started interrogating Kishan and the truth was revealed. He confessed to killing Jatinder Kumar. He had switched off his mobile phone before the crime, to ensure that the police could not get to know about his presence at the crime spot. On March 14, the police arrested Kishan for murder.
On May 26, 2013, when Jatinder was going in the Board’s Bolero, Kishan also went along with him and hit him with bricks on the way. “Ram Kishan had taken the defence that he was in Karnal on the day of murder. He could have reached Panchkula in two-and-a-half –hours. The clinching evidence was that he identified the place of murder. Then there was the motive of victim, of being in an illicit relationship with Kishan’s wife,” said district attorney APS Parmar.
