The deceased has been identified as Sharmila Devi. Her younger brother, Pawan Kumar, 33, killed her at their residence in ward number 8. Police said Sharmila was bedridden and unmarried, and lived with her mother and two brothers.

On Saturday, her elder brother Ram Bilas had gone to hospital in Bhiwani city along with his wife and mother, leaving Sharmila home with Pawan.

In the evening, Pawan informed the family that someone had killed Sharmila when he had gone out for some time. He opened the lockers in the house and scattered various items around to project it as a case of robbery.

Police then registered a case of murder against unknown persons. However, as cops did not get any clue about any outsider entering the house, they questioned Pawan, who confessed to the murder.

He was arrested on Monday and produced in court that sent him on judicial remand. Police said Pawan told them he “liberated his sister” as no one in the family took care of her.
