Mary Kom to return after London bronze

London Olympics bronze medallist Mary Kom, who was blessed with a third son in July last, is all set to enter the ring after the 2012 triumph.

London Olympics bronze medallist Mary Kom, who was blessed with a third son in July last, is all set to enter the ring after the 2012 triumph.


She will participate in the trials for the probables for the Commonwealth Games (CWG), to be held at New Delhi (IG Stadium) on May 6-7. The CWG squad will be picked from the probables later on this month.

“After the Olympics, I was in family way and later had gallbladder surgery.

“I was away from the sport for more than one-and-ahalf years but for the last two months I have started training , ” says Mary Ko m, who is eyeing at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, where woman boxing is making its games debut.

“Currently, I am focusing on the physical aspect and have started a bit of sparring. The best thing is that I have shed the extra kilos and now weigh 51kg. My first target is to make it to the probables, the CWG squad comes later,” she added.

Since the London Games, Mary Kom has been absent from national camps, so was it dif ficult to come back?
