MC removes encroachments from various markets

During a special anti-encroachment drive on Monday, the enforcement wing of the municipal corporation of Chandigarh (MCC) removed encroachments from various markets of the city and issued challans to nearly 105 violators.

The enforcement team removed encroachments from Industrial Area, Phase-2, including iron roll used for making screws, counters, tables, chairs, almirahs, etc., displayed by furniture houses. Besides, motorcycles, which were parked/dumped unauthorisedly at a public place, were seized from a Sector-37 market.

Besides this, rehries, pharies, racks, chairs, stools, garments, etc., were also seized from Sector 15. The drive was carried out on the directions of Lalit Siwach, additional commissioner, and under the supervision of Kashmira Singh, superintendent, and all sub-inspectors of the enforcement wing, MCC.

Two groups clash at Sector-15 market

Meanwhile, ugly scenes were witnessed at the Sector-15 booth market during the anti-encroachment drive. Some of the shops were also shut down by shopkeepers for about 15 minutes, following a scuffle between two groups.

Sources in police said as soon as the corporation staff reached the market, commotion was witnessed in the market, which led to scuffle between the two groups belonging to former president of the market, Varinder Mahajan and the present president, Yashpal Bittu. After heated arguments, the two groups exchanged blows, blaming each other for encroachment. The police were looking into the incident and no case was registered till late evening.
