MC’s own building in danger

The MC is not even bothered about checking violations in its own building in Sector 17. In a survey conducted by HT, it was found that most fire extinguishers in the building were beyond expiry date.

The MC is not even bothered about checking violations in its own building in Sector 17.

In a survey conducted by HT, it was found that most fire extinguishers in the building were beyond expiry date.

Around 600 employees work here, and there are a number of visitors at any given time. Electricity wires are hanging loose, rooms have been created using wooden partitions, and there are violations galore in the basement.

A number of rooms are stacked with papers and files that reach the ceiling.

ZONES NOT DEMARCATED

Despite approval of MC House in 2009 to demarcate fire zones i n parking l ot s of markets, nothing has been done in any of the 24 prominent parking lots of the city. The last mock drill was held in February 2013. At present there are around 24 prominent parking’s in the city. Some yellow lines in Sectors 17 and 22 have long disappeared.

NO EFFECTIVE DRIVE

PANEL HASN’T MET

MC fire and emergency services committee chairman MP Kohli said, “It is very unfortunate that in the past one year not even a single meeting of the committee has been held. Also, we fail to understand why funds are not used. Serving notices is a futile exercise; we will fix the responsibility now.”
