“There will be increase in rainfall activity with active wet spells in the tricity from July 5, which will bring down the temperature considerably and provide relief to the residents from the growing humidity which has been prevailing due to cloudy sky and lack of air circulation,” an official of the Met department said.

The department revealed that Chandigarh has received excess rainfall in June, amounting to 276.3 millimetre (mm). The normal amount of rainfall calculated by taking the records of the last five years has been around 141.5 mm.

“The southwest monsoon has been vigorous over coastal Karnataka and Goa and active over Himachal Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh and west Madhya Pradesh. The city has so far received moderate rainfall,” the official added.

The maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday has been stable for a few days at 33.5°C, which is still 3 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature has been recorded at 26.4°C which is a notch above normal making the nights warmer as compared to days. The city also recorded rainfall amounting to 1.1 mm on Tuesday.

Forecast for next 3 days
The weather in the next three days will be hot and humid with occasional development of thundercloud or light rain during next 24-36 hours and increase in rainfall activities afterwards.
