A 17-year-old alleged gangrape victim on Wednesday turned hostile as she denied having been raped and failed to recognise the accused in the court.
The development has come as a major relief to the three accused - Kulwinder Singh, Monty Pandwal and Mohit Subharwal - all of whom are pursuing a diploma course in engineering from a reputed institute in Sector 26, who are still behind bars.
The UT police had arrested the trio on April 28, 2013 on the complaint of the victim, a resident of Maloya, who had accused them of gangrape in a forest area near Sakteri village.
While testifying before the court of additional district and sessions judge, Shalini S Nagpal, on Wednesday, the victim denied having been raped. “I have seen these persons (accused) for the first time. I have never been raped and didn't lodge a complaint,” the victim told the court.
Explaining about her signatures on the complaint, the victim said, “I had gone to Mansa Devi temple and had lost way. I approached the police for help, who, on the pretext of dropping me home, had taken my signatures on blank papers.”
It is pertinent to mention that in April 2013, in her complaint to the police, the victim had maintained that accused Kulwinder Singh, was known to the girl for over a fortnight as he had become friends with her over the phone after identifying himself as Prashant.

{{/usCountry}}The victim, who is a school dropout, in her complaint had said that she was picked up from the Sector 41 market by the prime accused, Prashant, on his bike on the pretext of taking her to the Sukhna lake. But he instead took her to the forest area near Saketri, where he had called two of his friends, Monty and Mohit, and the three took turns to rape her.
