Model code violations: Captain, Jaitley under poll panel scrutiny

The Punjab electoral office has sent a report to the Election Commission of India (EC) for action against leading politicians, including chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, BJP leader Arun Jaitley and former CM Capt Amarinder Singh, for poll code violations. On the basis of the report from the EC, action would be initiated against these politicians.

The Punjab electoral office has sent a report to the Election Commission of India (EC) for action against leading politicians, including chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, BJP leader Arun Jaitley and former CM Capt Amarinder Singh, for poll code violations. On the basis of the report from the EC, action would be initiated against these politicians.

Jaitley, the BJP candidate from Amritsar, is facing action for sending bulk SMSes to subscribers on April 6, while Amarinder, who is contesting on the Congress ticket, took more than five persons inside the office of the returning officer while filing his nomination on April 4.

According to the state electoral office, Badal committed a poll code violation by holding a rally at a government school of Raipur village in Bathinda on April 4.

Congress candidate from Bathinda Manpreet Singh Badal is facing EC action for committing poll code violation five times by organising rallies without permission. Manpreet’s son Arjun Badal is also facing action for holding two rallies without permission.

SAD candidate from Sangrur and party’s secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa also figures in the list of poll code violators. He violated the code by taking more than five persons inside the office of the returning officer at the time of filing nomination and also took more than three vehicles inside the premises of the RO’s office. Congress candidate from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu committed a similar violation by taking more than five persons inside the RO’s office at the time of filing of nomination papers.

Mohinder Singh Kaypee, (Congress, Hoshiarpur), violated the code by entering the district administrative complex with 150 supporters while filing his nomination. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Hoshiarpur Yamini Gomar violated the code by entering Guru Ravidass mandir, Mukerian, at the time of a road show.

NOTICE TO PSPCL OFFICER

An executive officer of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited ( PSPCL) has been issued a show-cause notice by the Election Commission for giving a ‘kundi’ (illegal) power connection for a rally which was addressed by Parkash Singh Badal on April 12 in favour of BJP candidate from Hoshiarpur Vijay Sampla.
