Mohali admn gears up to tackle bird flu scare

After the bird flu scare in Chandigarh, SAS Nagar deputy commissioner (DC) Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu, taking a precautionary measure, conducted a special meeting with officials of the health department, animal husbandry department, officials of the wildlife protection department and other higher officials of the administration on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the DC directed to all departments to remain vigilant about the bird flu spread. It is worth mentioning that no case of bird flu has been reported in SAS Nagar district so far.

Sidhu also formed a special committee under the headship of additional deputy commissioner (development) Puneet Goel to look into the matter.

The five-member committee comprises deputy director, the department of animal husbandry, senior veterinary officers, wildlife protection officer and senior medical officer.

For the next 10 days, the committee will every day hold a meeting to take stock of the situation regarding bird flu spread in the district.

Directing officials of the concerned departments, the DC asked them to keep a close watch on poultry farms in the district, and officials of the health department and animal husbandry department have also been told to make people aware about the bird flu, its symptoms and precautionary measures.

Officials of the health department have also been asked to conduct door-to-door surveillance in Naya Gaon and Kansal village.

All block development panchayat officers (BDPO) and tehsildars have been directed to monitor ponds in villages and submit reports to the additional deputy commissioner.
