The case has now been handed over directly to the Sector 19 police station SHO Harjit Kaur. The parents and relatives of Monica protested outside sector 19 police station on Thursday, besides meeting DSP Vijay Kumar. Even though the parents have been alleging foul play in their daughter's death, the post-mortem has reported suicide as the cause of Monica's death.

Monica was declared brought dead on Monday at the Sector 16 Government Multi-Specialty Hospital. While her in-laws claimed Monica had hanged herself to death, her parents accused the in-laws of murder and demanded the registration of a murder case against them. However, the police booked the husband and in-laws of the deceased for abetment to suicide.

The police say the key to the mystery now lies in the viscera report, which would indicate whether the victim was unconscious before hanging. The viscera samples have been sent for chemical analysis and the report is expected to come in a month's time.

The statement of the victim's seven-year-old son Krish has added to the confusion. Krish reportedly told his teacher the same morning that his mother was beaten up badly and was sitting in a chair when he left for school at 7.30am. Krish later told his maternal grandparents that his mother was sitting still and was not speaking.
