Naresh beats Vikramaditya to enter U-12 pre-quarterfinals

Naresh Badgujar, a trainee of hosts Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA), put up a clinical performance to enter the pre-quarterfinals of the boys’ under-12 singles section in the ongoing the AITA Super Series tennis tournament at Sector 10 in Chandigarh on Monday. Badgujar blanked Vikramaditya Kadian 6-0, 6-0 in a lopsided encounter to move ahead.

Bhupender Dahiya and Krishan Hooda, both from the CLTA, also made it to the roundof-16. While Hooda got the better of Siddharth Nijhavan 6-3, 7-6, Dahiya rallied from second-set loss to register 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 win over Shubham Saini.

In other encounters, Kanishk Pal defeated Vansh Kapoor 6-2, 6-0, while Shrut Mohan Nagreta brought down Sammar Raina 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a tough contest. Mahesh Mohapatra and Nikhil Niranjan also advanced into the next round by registering easy victories against Dhruv Tangri (6-3, 6-2) and Anmol Jain (6-3, 6-3), respectively. Divesh Gahlot, Akash Ahlawat, Sandesh Kantimahanti, Asav Kumar, Jaishvin Sidana, Sidharth Goel and Neel Garud were among others who made it to the next round.

In the corresponding under-16 age-group section, Param Pun got the better of Vikram Dhananjay 6-1, 6-2, while Jagdeep Bajwa defeated Prithvi Khanna 6-1, 6-2, to enter the pre-quarters.

In the girls’ under-12 singles, Shreya Gulia stunned Sehajveer Bhandal 6-0, 6-0, while Amreen Sidhu also registered a doublebagel win against Neha Pal to enter the pre-quarterfinals. Ishita Singh beat Tasheen Makkar 6-1, 6-1, and Tanisha Kashyap ousted Tanisha Pranjal 6-0, 6-1. Ishita Singh and Kiran Kalkal also enjoyed easy outings, defeating Tashneen Makkar (6-1, 6-1) and Luvya Lamba (6-0, 6-2), respectively. Rahat Mangat, Riya Uboveja, Alisha Menon, Mushrath Shaik, Shmbhavi Tiwari, Yana Dhamija, Sanya Singh, Gauri Bhagia, Bindu Kulharia and Durva Deo also cruised ahead.
