As the Nepal’s capital city and its adjoining areas have been flattened by a Strong earthquake on Saturday, the people belonging to the neighbouring country in the tricity are anxious and concerned for the wellbeing of their near and dear ones back home.
Some of the Nepalese residing in the tricity have lost their houses and other properties in the quake that has already claimed 1,900 lives.
Besides handful of students, maximum people from Nepal in the tricity are working as watchmen, cooks and waiters. A large number of them are into car washing in residential areas and selling Chinese delicacies from stalls in the markets.
Gyan Bahadhur (44), who is employed as a peon with St Stephen’s School, Sector 45-B, Chandigarh, for the past 25 years, said, “I was shocked to hear about the tragedy and, since yesterday, am unsuccessfully trying to contact my relatives based at Bharwa near Katmandu. I could not sleep the whole night on Saturday and am keeping myself about the tragedy through TV. I am under tension.”
Jaskaran Singh Dhillon, who is taking IELTS coaching in city and belongs to Nepal, says, “My father, who runs a hotel in Katmandu had a narrow escape as minutes before the earthquake, he came out of the hotel. The entire hotel came down crashing in front of my father’s eyes. Even cracks have appeared in our house in Nepal and my parents and brother spent the night in the open.”

{{/usCountry}}“I spoke to my parents early morning, but was unable to reach to them after the tragedy. I am really concerned as the worst affected area in Kathmandu is where my sister and her family reside,” says Mahesh Gupta, a Nepalese resident, who is studying at Chandigarh University, SAS Nagar.
Another student from Nepal at the same university, Santosh Lamichhane, said, “My family is safe, but my house got damaged. My parents spent the Saturday night awake. We have witnessed such a tragedy for the first time in our country.”
Rajib Yadav, who belongs to Saptra in Nepal and is studying at Sri Sukhmani group of colleges, Dera Bassi, said, “I spoke to my parents and came to know that my house has been badly damaged in the quake. I am worried tensed where my parents will stay now,” he said.
