Punjab Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Sarvjit Singh joined as the new UT finance secretary on Thursday.

He has joined on inter-cadre deputation for a period of three years in place of VK Singh, a 1990-batch IAS officer.

A 1992-batch IAS officer, Sarvjit Singh was secretary (revenue) in the Punjab government before joining the Chandigarh administration.
He was among a panel of three officers, sent by the state government.
As many as nine Punjab-cardre IAS officers have applied for the coveted post of UT finance secretary. The Punjab government had sought applications from the IAS officers of 1990 batch onwards only.
