For all these services, residents now have to undergo the step of attestation by officers as all these offices ask for affidavits from the general public at the time of applying. UT deputy commissioner Mohammed Shayin said the administration had discontinued the requirement of affidavit for various services to simplify delivery.

“The move will save residents from harassment and also lead to savings of time, effort and money,” the DC added.

UT assistant estate officer Balbir Singh said in place of affidavits, the applicants can now furnish a declaration on plain paper with the latest photograph. For giving wrong information, the applicant shall be liable for prosecution under Sections 177 and 191 of the Indian Penal Code, and would be liable for imprisonment and fine.
