The Bahujan Samaj Party candidates for the assembly elections bowing before party chief Mayawati at a rally here on Sunday did not go down well with their supporters.

Out of the 10 assembly election candidates of the BSP who present on the stage, nine knelt before the BSP president to seek her blessings.

A section of supporters expressed their reservations on party nominees bowing before their leader. “Like the candidates, the practice of touching feet of the BSP chief is also humiliating for us. Kneeling down in public is embarrassing,” said a youth claiming to be supporter of a BSP candidate from Assandh in Karnal, Maratha Virender Verma.

BSP’s chief ministerial candidate Arvind Sharma was only party candidate to receive Mayawati at the backstage.
