Now, Congress party to subdivide block units

The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has mooted a proposal of further dividing the party's block units, particularly those comprising remote areas.

The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has mooted a proposal of further dividing the party's block units, particularly those comprising remote areas.

The proposal will be discussed threadbare at party's executive meeting on (Saturday) at Rajiv Bhawan, the Congress' headquarter.

The proposal intends to defragment about ten blocks including Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur Rohru and Bharmour Chopal.

The Congress move comes after the Congress chief Sukhu ordered division of its district units of Kangra and Mandi. The party had created Palampur, Dehra and Nurpur block units in Kangra while Mandi, the second largest district comprising 10 assembly segments, has been divided into two district units.

Sukhu faced stiff resistance from frontline leaders of the party, but he went ahead and sought approval from the party high command in New Delhi.

Senior state Congress functionaries have told HT that the subdivision is being done to improve functioning of the party.

The Congress' state unit also plans to the hold a workshop for its workers next month. It is likely to be attended by the national general secretary and party in charge for Himachal affairs - Ambika Soni besides the co in-charge Raja Rampal. Chief minister Virbhadra Singh will also take part in the workshop.
