The residents in these areas can now avail themselves of various public services like utility bills -- electricity, water and telephone--VAT/CST payments and can buy stamp papers at the Sampark kiosks in their sectors.

e-Sampark kiosks are unique public services delivery outlets conceived and set up by the department of information technology.

The uniqueness in this kiosk-based public services delivery concept is that the infrastructural as well as operations costs for the Chandigarh administration are significantly low and these kiosks can be set up in busy areas very quickly.

The first Sampark kiosk was set up in Sector 35 in April earlier this year and in no time it gained popularity to the extent that it has become a landmark in the locality. The Sampark kiosk in Sector 37 has been set up at the water works station and the other two have been set up at the Community Centre of Dadu Majra Colony and Sector 48.

A few services, which require attestation by officials like bus pass for students and senior citizen cards are completed on the following day.

The UT secretary, information technology, Prerna Puri stated:"In order to enhance government-public interface for availing of services, the department of information technology is consistently innovating the delivery channels and work-flows. The department is working towards opening of such kiosks in other sectors as well and these include Sector 27 and Sector 38."
