The nurses are demanding regularisation of around 240 nurses. They claimed they were recruited on a contract of three years, which finished last year and the government promised to regularise them, thereafter, but hadn't. "We would continue the protest till our demand is accepted by the government", said Sukhjad Singh, union president.

He demanded that a decision be taken regarding the same in the upcoming cabinet meeting and added that they would also meet the Punjab chief minister to press for their demand.
