An 85-year-old woman is struggling for life in an Amritsar hospital after being raped twice allegedly on Tuesday night but accused Bagga Masih is charged under a mild section (354) of the IPC that relates to the use of criminal force for outraging a woman’s modesty.
The victim from Shahpur Jajan village in Dera Baba Nanak police jurisdiction lives alone. Her son remains out most of the time and neighbours care for her and give food.
The witness, Bholi, first to discover the crime, has told the police that around 6.30am on Wednesday, when she brought the woman her morning tea, she was shocked to find her in a pool of blood on a bed in the verandah, with the accused over her. She said, “The woman was crying with pain, so I called over my mother-in-law, who alarmed the other neighbours,” adding that: “Seeing the villagers gather, the accused, who was still under the influence of liquor, fled.”
