Online tax collection facility launched

The UT excise and taxation department in association with the State Bank of India (SBI) launched facility for the online collection of taxes in Chandigarh on Friday.

The UT excise and taxation department in association with the State Bank of India (SBI) launched facility for the online collection of taxes in Chandigarh on Friday.

The service will enable traders pay all taxes -- VAT, central sales tax, excise, entertainment tax and passenger tax - online.

The service was launched by UT adviser KK Sharma, while UT finance secretary VK Singh, deputy commissioner Mohammed Shayin and assistant excise and taxation commissioner Naresh Dubey were also present on the occasion.

The matter of e-payment was raised in 2006 and 2011 with the then finance secretaries by advocate Ajay Jagga. Lauding the adviser for the initiative, Ajay Jagga said the technology will help improve the efficiency of the excise and taxation department and that too in a transparent matter with public participation.
