This is the same firm that was enrolled by the corporation last year. The MC last year had earned `82 lakh from inviting tenders, and JPS Construction that had bid `23 lakh got the contract. It was decided to levy `2 per two-wheeler and `5 per car at the 19 main parking lots in the city starting March 11, 2014.

Though MC commissioner Uma Shankar Gupta had maintained that he had consulted the market welfare associations, the latter had rubbished the claims and held massive protests against the decision. As a result, the project was shelved.
“Management of parking lots is a must. Hence, the firm has been enrolled again. As of now, nothing will be charged from visitors, as the aim is to first see how it works out,” said Gupta.
