A new medical college in Haryana may come up in the Pinjore-Kalka Urban Complex. The site for the college has also been chosen in sector 4-A of the town.
“We are still assessing it and the final approval has to be taken. The site has been looked into and the location is good. It is still at an initial stage,” said Dheera Khandelwal, principal secretary, medical education and research.
The coming up of medical college in Panchkula is important in view of upcoming state assembly elections and allegations of bias in the development in the area. Also, if it comes up, it would the sixth government medical college after those at Rohtak, Khanpur Kalan, Karnal, Mewat and Bhiwani.
The site for the new medical college was approved recently in a meeting comprising principal secretary, medical education and research, Dheera Khandelwal, and chief administrator of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) AK Singh. The minutes of this meeting are available with HT.
In the meeting, Khandelwal stated the “state government intends to set up a medical college in Panchkula district, for which minimum land requirement is 20 acres”. She further said the hospital would also form part of the medical college project. Singh apprised, “Keeping in view the land requirement, HUDA land available in sector 4-A or sector 5 of the Pinjore-Kalka urban complex can be considered for the purpose.
Approximately 32 acres land is available in sector 5 and about 25 acres land is available in Sector 4-A.”

{{/usCountry}}“It was noted that the location of sector 4-A was nearer to the existing residential development; and as per the development plan, a hospital site is envisaged to come up in sector 4-A. Therefore, it emerged as the first preference for the location of the medical college-cum-hospital campus,” says the minutes of meeting.
“It was decided that on site demarcation may be done to work out the exact area of clear land available in sector 4-A,” adds the minutes of meeting.
Khandelwal was apprised that land would be allotted at the institutional rate applicable for the financial year 2014-15 which was under approval.
It was also decided in the meeting that HUDA must plan commercial and social charitable sites in sector 5, along the 45-metre wide sector road opposite the hospital and college site, where provision of dharamshala, budget hotels and general and medicinal shops could be made to cater to the requirements of the medical college. It was agreed that in case the land in sector 4-A is allotted for medical college-cum-hospital, then matter would be taken up with the director general of town and country planning for making its land use institutional as the sector is meant for residential purpose.
