Panel for truce between Badal, Sarna groups

The Sikh intellectual fraternity of Delhi has formed a peace committee for brokering a truce between the two Akali groups which had clashed at Gurdwara Rakabganj in the national capital recently.

The Sikh intellectual fraternity of Delhi has formed a peace committee for brokering a truce between the two Akali groups which had clashed at Gurdwara Rakabganj in the national capital recently.

One group, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi), is led by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Paramjit Singh Sarna and the other, the ruling SAD in Punjab, is headed by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Senior Supreme Court advocate HS Phoolka is the committee coordinator, while the other members include social scientist Dr Amarjit Singh Narang, Sikh scholar and former PGI director Dr JS Neki, writer Ajit Caur and former CBI director Joginder Singh.

Two members each from both groups have been nominated for the talks Bhajan Singh Walia and Tarsem Singh from the Sarna group and Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Harmeet Singh Kalkaji from the Badal group.

It has also been decided to hold a candlelight vigil at the spot of the violence at Gurdwara Rakabganj at 5 pm on Friday.
